Dogs
that fall under the sporting group were originally bred to
assist man in his hunting ventures and help in guarding him
from wild animals.If you are a person who loves to go on frequent
outings, then you can find one of the sporting group dog breeds
very useful and a good companion. When it comes to the various
types of sporting group dogs, there are four major types and
they are Retrievers, spaniels, setters, and pointers.
Retrievers

Retrievers are large bodied dog variety and has got a robust
growth. They are also very affectionate, loyal and smart to
the owners and very friendly to the young children. These
dogs normally accepts other dogs and strangers with caution
and due to its playful and easy going nature retrievers are
considered to be the best choice for family pets.

time, if it happens to be a very prolonged one, then the dog
may get restless and start to display its destructive behaviors
such as chewing, barking, and digging. Being a big-bodied
variety, retrievers need a very good amount of exercise and
you have to keep him active.

Bay Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Curly-Coated
Retrievers, and Flat-Coated Retrievers are the few examples
that come under retriever category of sporting group dogs.
Spaniels
Spaniels
when trained can assist you in your bird hunting and bird
flushing in case of need. These breeds are very loyal to their
owners and behave in a friendly and affectionate manner with
children. If you are in an active family, then you can own
one of these dogs, as these dogs need daily exercise to keep
fit and these dogs cannot be left alone. If you ignore to
give your spaniel the right kind of training and if you keep
it in isolation for longer periods, then your dog may become
more fearful and lose confidence.
Clumber
Spaniel, American Water Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel,
Field Spaniel, Welsh Springer Spaniel, English Cocker Spaniel,
Sussex Spaniel, English Springer Spaniel, and Irish Water
Spaniel, are good examples of spaniel type of sporting group
dogs.
Setters
Setters
are generally considered as dogs for hunting and as they are
very active and energetic they make a wonderful jogging partner
in your daily jogging. In order to keep your setter dog agile
always you need to give it a good amount of exercise and in
the absence of any exercise your setter dog will become more
nervous and jittery.
This
type of dog normally depends on human companionship and secures
its place in the family by being loyal.English
Setter, Irish Setter Gordon Setter, and Brittany are nice
examples for the setter type of dogs.
Pointers
Pointers
are the types of dogs that prefer to be busy always and they
are also very energetic and big in body size. The unique characteristics
of its long legs make them to run on a continuous basis thus
helping you in your search for fowls during your field trip.
They
behave very friendly with children and develop a strong bondage
with the family they live in. These dogs being big in size,
if not made to exercise will become destructive by exhibiting
behaviors such as digging, chewing and excessive barking.
German
Shorthaired Pointer, Vizsla, Pointer, Weimaraner, Wirehaired
Pointing Griffon, and German Wirehaired Pointer are few examples
that make the pointer type of sporting group dogs.
