The
Three Best Groups of Hound Breed Dog
Out
of various dog breeds, the Hound breed is one that is considered
to be one of the sophisticated breeds, as these dogs are vary
fast and are considered as best companions during hunting.Again,
within the broader classification of hound breed, there are
three sub groups the names of which are the scenthounds, the
sighthounds, and the large game hounds.
Scent
Hounds
As
the name suggests these scent hounds are dogs that can be
bred and trained to follow scent very effectively. They carry
an excellent sense perception that makes such dogs a wonderful
breed for training to track other small animals. These dogs
are so attracted towards scent and hence it will be difficult
to control them once they are set to follow a scent track
and they can never be distracted by other means.
These
scent hounds are normally very affectionate with the family
they live in and also get friendlier with children and strangers
very fast and easy. These dogs with little bigger body mass
need a good amount of exercise and they also exhibit cheerfulness
and stay active and energetic.
Names
such as Harrier, American Foxhound, Beagle, Dachshund, Basset
Hound, Otterhound, Bloodhound, Petit Basset Griffon Venden,
Black and Tan Coonhound, and English Foxhound are good scent
hounds you can consider maintaining.
Sighthounds
Sighthounds
are a yet another type of hounds that use their eyesight as
their guidance in its prey chase. Again, similar to the scent
hound, the dogs behaviour of running after its prey
makes it difficult for you to train or obedience this type
of dog. If you want to curtail the dogs inborn running
after prey instinct, then you need to train it by allowing
the dog to socialize with small animals like cats at initial
stage itself. Further, you also need to give this type of
dog a good exercise and proper obedience training.
Saluki,
Borzoi, Ibizan Hound, Irish Wolfhound, Whippet, Afghan Hound,
Greyhound, Pharaoh Hound, Basenji, and Scottish Deerhound
are the names that suggest best examples for sighthounds.
Large
Game Hounds
The
dogs that fall under large game hounds category are known
for its stamina, endurance levels and strength. These dogs
reign superiority due to its excellent sense of smell and
hence they are considered to be the best companions during
hunting. These dogs get very aggressive at the sight of small
animals and also were known to be used for hunting elks.
If
you want to tame this type of dog, then you must start your
obedience training very early when the dog is in its young
age itself and you can also use this dog as a wonderful watchdog.
This breed never accommodates strangers and needs a better
housing with sufficient exercise.
When
it comes to the behaviour of this dog with young children,
it is better you restrain the young children from getting
closer to this dog meddling with the dog.Rhodesian
Ridgeback and Norwegian Elkhound are two best names you can
look for under this large game hound category.
