Little Known Details of Non-Sporting Groups in Dog Breeds

During yesteryears people used to form and train group of dogs for carrying out some specific duties and the group that was formed was called as Non-sporting group of dogs.However, such practice is not in vogue now and hence all these non-sporting groups of dogs started finding their shelter in homes and became pets and companions. As all these dogs were originally bred and brought up for few specific purposes, you can notice a wide change in their behavior.




Hence, if you happen to take possession of one of the dogs from such breed group, then it is better you take advice from an expert, as you may find the traits and personalities of such dogs different and may not be to your liking. Once you have all the information on hand, then you can decide about your purchase depending upon the dog’s suitability to your existing environment and lifestyle. Before you could set your mind to buy a dog from such a special breed group, it is better you get to know few breed details and details about each breed.

There are many breeds of dogs that fall under the specialized group and they are Bulldog, Shiba Inu, Lhasa Apso, Bichon Frise, Boston Terrier, French Bulldog, Finnish Spitz, Schipperke, Tibetan Terrier, American Eskimo Dog, Tibetan Spaniel, Keeshond, Lowchen, Boston Terrier, Chow Chow, both Miniature and Standard Poodle, Dalmatian, and the Chinese Shar-Pei.

Exotic Breeds

What you have seen above are breeds available easily, however there are few exotic breeds that are rare and few names of such breeds are as follows:

Norwegian Lundehund: This dog breed is known for its six numbers of toes and due to its talents it was believed that these dogs were used for puffin hunting during the Ice Age and hence earned the name as “Puffin Dog”.

Leonberger (Leo.): This is one of the energetic dogs known to mankind, and it is large in size sporting a lion-colored coat and was first bred in Germany.

Swedish Vallhund: As the name suggests, this breed emanated from Sweden and was mainly put to use for herding cattle and sheep. This is also a Spitz type breed and can be well domesticated as a pet in home.

Cesky Terrier: This is originally a cross bred variety from Czechoslovakia obtained by crossing a Scottish Terrier with the Sealyham Terrier in the year 1949.

Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog: The original home for this breed is United States, and this breed being a versatile one is very good at both herding cattle and in hunting. You can have this dog in your home and get your home well guarded, as these type of dogs take enough care in protecting the family they live in.

Polish Owczarek Nizinny Sheepdog: In United States this type of dog is called as either PONS or Polish Lowland Sheepdog and the dog will be full of hanging shags. Notwithstanding the shaggy looks, this breed is really confident, intelligent, territorial, very loyal and affectionate to the family they live in and guard your home from strangers. Once you train it properly, this dog can serve the purpose of a watchdog in your home.
