Here’s a Quick Guide on the Basic Dog Training Commands

The universal complaint of many dog owners from any part of the world is that their dog is not behaving properly where as there are quite a good number of dog owners who train their dogs and lead a peaceful life without any dog behavior problems.

When there are many ways and means with which you can train your dog, it is a pity to see many dog owners still battling with their unruly pets without even giving an iota of thought to take up dog training.

Further, many dog owners are conditioned to believe that their dogs do not need any training at all and still few others believe that training a dog is the most difficult task in the world, but in reality both the notions are proved wrong beyond doubt. The stark reality is that before the dogs could be trained the owners are to be trained to change their mind set so that they can start training their dogs. Training a dog is in fact easy and there are many simple command sets that can make your dog obey and behave in a docile manner. Further, by training your dog, you can make your bond still closer and your dog will also continue to be your faithful companion.

The Basic Commands

It is quite common to see some level of difference amongst the command sets that various dog trainers use, but the basic commands are always common and denote only to the same meaning. When it comes to the basic commands, they are five in number and let us see them little more in detail.

The very first command is “heel” which means that your dog should stay or stop by your side. The second “sit” command will make your dog to sit wherever it is and the third “down” command is to stop your dog from jumping on things or persons. Majority of dog training commands are mono syllabled and are self-explanatory for the owners. For instance, the command to make your dog sit is “sit” and not “sit down” and similarly the command to get your dog off from people it is “down” and not “get down”.

The fourth dog training command is “stay” and this command is meant to make your dog stay and sit wherever it is. This command is very useful to get your dog fixed in one place and can come very handy under many obvious circumstances. The last, but not least, of the five basic commands is the command “come” and this is used to make your dog come near you either for leashing or for any other relevant reason and the same command is also indicative of releasing your dog from other commands.

As a dog owner you might have named your dog according to your taste and may be without knowing that a dog’s name is a powerful command to draw its attention at once. In order to draw your dog’s attention, you need not even yell his name, but even by simple whispering of your dog’s name you can see your pet looking at you with rapt attention and start coming near to you. To make your dog respond to this type of behavior you can initially reward it with some treats.

Further, it is any dog’s natural instinct to look to its masters for commands and the dogs are also habitually interested to keep their masters happy. The moment your dog accepts you as its master and boss, you will not have any difficulty in making your dog learn more commands and you can see your dog becoming more docile and amenable.
