Here
is where You can Cross Check Your Knowledge on Terrier Group
Dog Breeds
The
dog breeds that come under the Terrier group are always courageous,
sturdy, determined, confident, independent and tough and if
you search for a single word to describe the terrier then
the word sensational would certainly suffice your
need.
Originally these types of dogs were bred for the purpose of
hunting rodents and other small field animals that play havoc
in fields. The terrier group dogs are also aggressive and
hence they are very successful in its hunt for fast moving
rodents and other animals.
When
it comes to the different types of terriers then there are
two major types by name the fighters and the vermin hunters
and let us see few more details about them now:
The
Fighter Breed
True
to its name, these dogs were known for its brave heart, confidence,
and aggressiveness and hence originally bred and used for
bull bait and to fight other dogs. Fortunately, the usage
pattern took a turn and these dogs are now used for companionship
and for guarding homes. Most of the aggressive nature of these
dogs are tamed down now and they are active, affectionate
and playful to the owners, but very cautious about strangers.
These terrier fighter breed dogs expect their owners to be
strong and confident and love to be bossed over by the owner.
If
you want to get rid of the fierce behaviour and the aggressiveness
in your terrier dog, then you must train and socialize it
right from its pup stage and if you do not do this then the
terrier is not recommended for your family if you have kids.
American
Staffordshire Terrier, Miniature Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier,
and Staffordshire Bull Terrier are the few examples for the
fighter terrier dog breed.
The
Vermin Hunters
These
dogs, besides being alert and active, they are confident too
and were originally bred for the purpose of hunting otters,
badger, and other vermin. This vermin hunter terrier breed
dogs are always independent and ever ready to go on action
and due to its very high prey instincts, you should always
take your terrier leashed whenever you go out with your dog.
However,
if you can give proper training to your vermin terrier, then
you can take your dog along unleashed safely. If you happen
to leave your vermin terrier dog alone for a longer period
then you can expect it to behave destructively and start exhibiting
behaviors such as chewing and incessant barking. Your terrier
is an active breed and hence you should expose your dog to
a good amount of exercise so as to make it healthy and happy.
Welsh
Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, Skye Terrier,
Sealyham Terrier, Airedale Terrier, Border Terrier and Jack
Russel Terrier are the few well-known examples of vermin hunters.
